From The Honorable Sis. Cynthia McKinney: Has NATO Unleashed A Race War In Libya? Please Call Congress To Stop This Madness!

From The Honorable Sis. Cynthia McKinney: Has NATO Unleashed A Race War In Libya? Please Call Congress To Stop This Madness!
1.
Please call the House and Senate and ask for an end to this madness--defund US War Against Libya now!  Please let them know that US Libyan allies, the "rebels," are cleansing Blacks out of areas under their control
.

The House has just taken another vote and I will discuss its implications this evening.

House rejects measure to continue US role in Libya

By DONNA CASSATA, Associated Press 2 mins ago
WASHINGTON – The House on Friday overwhelmingly rejected a measure giving President Barack Obama the authority to continue the U.S. military operation against Libya, a major repudiation of the commander in chief.
The vote was 295-123, with Obama losing the support of 70 of his Democrats one day after Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton had made a last-minute plea for the mission.
While the congressional action had no immediate effect on American involvement in the NATO-led mission, it was an embarrassment to a sitting president and certain to have reverberations in Tripoli and NATO capitals.
The vote marked the first time since 1999 that either House has voted against a military operation. The last time was over President Bill Clinton's authority in the Bosnian war.
The House planned a second vote on legislation to cut off money for the operation.
House Republican leaders pushed for the vote, with rank-and-file members saying the president broke the law by failing to seek congressional approval for the 3-month-old war.
"The president has operated in what we now know is called the zone of twilight as to whether or not he even needs our approval," said Rep. Tom Rooney, R-Fla. "So what are we left with?"
Some Democrats accused the GOP of playing politics with national security. They said the vote would send a message to Gadhafi.
Rep. Adam Smith of Washington, the top Democrat on the Armed Services Committee, said the vote would essentially "stop the mission in Libya and empower Moammar Gadhafi."
The defeated resolution mirrors a Senate measure sponsored by Sens. John Kerry, D-Mass., and John McCain, R-Ariz., that Obama has indicated he would welcome. The Senate Foreign Relations Committee will consider the resolution on Tuesday.
The second vote to eliminate money for the Libya operation would make an exception for search and rescue efforts, intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, aerial refueling and operational planning to continue the NATO effort in Libya. That measure has no chance in the Democratic-controlled Senate.
House Republicans and Democrats are furious with Obama for failing to seek congressional authorization as required under the War Powers Resolution. The 1973 law, often ignored by Republican and Democratic presidents, says the commander in chief must seek congressional consent for military actions within 60 days. That deadline has long passed.
Obama stirred congressional unrest last week when he told lawmakers he didn't need authorization because the operation was not full-blown hostilities. NATO commands the Libya operation, but the United States still plays a significant support role that includes aerial refueling of warplanes and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance work as well as drone attacks and bombings.
A New York Times report that said Obama overruled some of his legal advisers further incensed members of Congress.
In a last-ditch effort Thursday, Clinton met with rank-and-file Democrats to explain the mission and discuss the implications if the House votes to cut off funds. The administration requested the closed-door meeting.
Rep. Tim Walz, D-Minn., said Clinton apologized for not coming to Congress earlier. But he said she warned about the implications of a House vote to cut off money.
"The secretary expressed her deep concern that you're probably not on the right track when Gadhafi supports your efforts," Walz said.
Rep. Howard Berman of California, the top Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, said such a vote "ensures the failure of the whole mission."
Earlier this week Clinton said lawmakers were free to raise questions, but she asked, "Are you on Gadhafi's side, or are you on the side of the aspirations of the Libyan people and the international coalition that has been bringing them support?"
In the Senate, backers of a resolution to authorize the operation wondered whether the administration had waited too long to address the concerns of House members.
"It's way late," said McCain, the top Republican on the Armed Services Committee. "This is one of the reasons why they're having this veritable uprising in the House, because of a lack of communication. And then the icing on the cake was probably for them when he (Obama) said that we're not engaged in hostilities. That obviously is foolishness."
He added, however, "That is not a reason to pass a resolution that would encourage Moammar Gadhafi to stay in power."
Earlier this month, the House voted 268-145 to rebuke Obama for failing to provide a "compelling rationale" for the Libyan mission and for launching U.S. military forces without congressional approval.

Bro. Coy McKinney, Son Of The Honorable Sis. Cynthia McKinney, Writes About The Media And Its Reportage On Libya

Coy's article was edited; this is the edited version that appears in PolyMic:
http://policymic.com/articles/the-media-fog-of-war

The Media Fog of War

PolicyMic
An embedded reporter snaps war footage. The U.S. military-industrial complex and media work together to propagate the agenda of government.

NATO’s decision to intervene in Libya on humanitarian grounds has become an alarming and revealing assessment of America’s understanding of war. The way the “established” media portrayed the Libyan conflict, and its subsequent reception, illustrates our society’s failure to recognize how the power dynamics of plutocratic governance shape our realities. There is significant historical evidence that during times of war propaganda is used to justify military action for special interests. If we are to believe the theme of “change” will define our generation, we must pierce through both the media and the government’s rationalization of war.
I have found the established media’s reporting on Libya to be lacking in depth and consideration of an alternative to military intervention. This is not unusual. History repeatedly shows that during times of war, the established media have a tendency to mislead, deceive, and (in some instances) fabricate to serve the interests of the rich and powerful. This is shown through the writings of Carl Bernstein, the Nayirah testimony, the treatment of former U.S. Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney, and the beginning of the Iraq and Afghan wars. Essentially, the media has been used to facilitate consent, not dissent.

Given the assumption that we learn from history, our passive acceptance of such reporting is surprising. In 1758, author Samuel Johnson wrote, “Among the calamities of war may be justly numbered the diminution of the love of truth, by the falsehoods which interest dictates and credulity encourages.” Later, President Dwight Eisenhower warned us of the emerging military-industrial complex, which we learned has a tradition of lying in addition to tremendous governmental influence. If the military has to go to such lengths for approval, it is clearly not what we naturally desire. Thus, why has there not been more widespread skepticism and objection with regard to Libya?

Led by the U.S., NATO used reports of imminent danger to civilians as justification for humanitarian intervention. Yet, history shows that there is a good reason to approach this explanation with skepticism. In fact, it was recently reported that President Barack Obama exaggerated the humanitarian threat. Once we consider issues such as who the Libyan rebels are and what role oil, banking, previous planning, and geopolitics play in the situation, it seems that history is repeating itself.

The question for our generation becomes: At what point do we categorically reject war and its mechanisms from the beginning rather than in retrospect? We can do this by repudiating all war. We must reject the seemingly righteous theory of humanitarian intervention because it is divorced from how social conflicts actually arise and are resolved. The idea that bombing — an indiscriminate killing method the U.S. has become notoriously inaccurate at — can improve a situation is untenable. The most recent example is Kosovo; it was the nonviolent movement that ultimately resolved the conflict. Moreover, what right does any country have to determine the affairs of another country? This is the same expression of moral superiority used to justify imperialism.

If we want to live in a world of peace, we must learn from our history and see that war is an unnatural phenomenon; we need to reject it on a philosophical and spiritual level. Removing war from our conscience creates space for dialogue and diplomacy, and brings us closer to a shared utopia.

Winston-Salem, NC - Celebrated actor Dorien Wilson has wowed television audiences for decades.  His comedic performances in TV classics like "Dream On,"  "Goode Behavior,"  "Sister Sister," and of course, "The Parkers" have garnered him a burgeoning fan base, awards and numerous accolades.  However, when the thespian takes the take stage at this year's 2011 National Black Theatre Festival in Winston-Salem, NC, we will see Dorien Wilson like we have never seen him before.

"UnRinging The Bell" is Wilson's one-man show debut, running at the festival from Tuesday, August 2 through Thursday, August 4, 2011. A special Red Carpet performance and VIP reception will be held on Thursday, August 4  the closing night at 8:00 p.m.  A comedic yet poignantly, introspective journey, "Unringing The Bell" reveals Wilson coming to terms with his life .
In the play,  we find Wilson seeking therapy amongst a parade of characters, all of whom are  dealing with something done to them in their lives.  But now they must bury it and move on.  Wilson seamlessly portrays not only himself, but a cast of  personalities that also include the Dr. Ira Feinstein, a persnickety old man with a European accent; a white supremacist who falls in love with a Black woman, and a homeless man who was once a Hollywood star.  Wilson exposes his personal highs and lows in the entertainment business, his ordeal with alcoholism, depression and the passing of his mother. A range of different media is utilized including voice-over, filmed segments, slides and original music.
"Theater is such a wonderful and intimate medium," expresses Wilson. "This is a refreshing return to my acting roots and an acknowledgment of some powerful life lessons.  I'm hoping the audience will become engaged and find the piece as cathartic for them as it was for me in the performing of it."

"The concept of "Unringing The Bell" is that once something happens, the bell is rung.  It is done. You can't undo it, you can't go back.  You have to deal with the truth of it, embrace it and move on.  It can be a liberating experience," adds Wilson.

A recipient of the NAACP Image Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy,
Wilson's career spans over 20 years including three series in network television.   He first became a household staple as Eddie Charles in HBO's "Dream On" and then the Reverend Franklin Goode on UPN's "Goode Behavior."  Wilson also enjoyed  recurring roles on "Sister Sister," "Friends," and "The Steve Harvey Show." His role as Professor Oglevee on "The Parkers" however, solidified him as a mainstay in America's television history.

Wilson will be taking his one-man performance, "Unringing The Bell" on the road after its run at the National Black Theatre Festival.  For ticket information about "UnRinging The Bell," go to  http://www.nbtf.org/ . You can find Dorien Wilson on Facebook.com and "like" and follow him there.

Black Mafia Widow,

Shares Her Story in New Book
"With Eyes From Both Sides -
Living My Life In and Out of the Game"

Former Black Mafia Queen Pen, Thelma Wright,
Pens Autobiographical Novel
Thelma Wright Book Cover fnl
Philadelphia - The words "queen pen" and "boss lady" can conjure up many images.  One might think of an icy, cold-blooded gangstress who is heartless about the business at hand. Yet, the sparkling, green eyes belonging to Thelma Wright paint a different picture.  Though rumored at one time to be the most powerful and dangerous Black woman in Philadelphia, discreetly running a bi-coastal drug empire that her husband left behind, Wright's green eyes reflect a pensive view.  Peering into them, we feel the love, the loss, the pain and the retribution of a mother, a wife now widowed and a yes, even a friend.  Simply stated, Thelma Wright was married to the mob ... the Black Mafia to be exact.  But nothing is ever that simple.

Thelma Wright
With her poignantly, introspective release of "With Eyes From Both Sides - Living My Life In and Out of the Game" as told to and written by C. Alease, the former boss lady invites us not only into her world, but into her mind, her heart and her soul. The woman, quietly heralded by some as the Black Griselda Blanco, minus the murder, was on the lead track of the notorious Black Mafia, a gang which ran Philly's drug trade throughout the '80's and into the '90's.  Married to drug kingpen, Jackie Wright, one of the top heroin wholesalers in the city at that time, Wright was privy to a life that on the surface, most would envy.

Like Blanco, Wright was respected as a no nonsense woman who stayed on top of the product.  At her peak, she was grossing top dollar and living the high life, attending championship fights via private jets, going on European shopping sprees and driving a fleet of customized Mercedes Benzs.  She also enjoyed taking cruises to the Bahamas and speed boating in Miami.

"With Eyes From Both Sides" however, Wright takes us beneath the surface of the fast lane into the real.  The product of a middle working class Black family, Wright attended Catholic school and was a star athlete as a child.  Life was never difficult for her and she came from a stable and loving, two-parent home.  Wright's story is not your typical tale of abuse or abandonment.  In fact, it was the strength of good parenting and strong family ties that saw her through her darkest days.

So how did she end up entangled in one of the Black underworld's most notorious gangs?  It was the attraction for men who had achieved financial status and success that was the bait that lured her into the 'game.'  Like most inner city communities in an era past, the fast life was the road many initially, well intended Black men traveled to acquire seemingly quick and easy riches.

Wright's novel is a ride down memory lane, as we flashback to the tone of those times.  Nostalgia colors our remembrance of days long past, as she recalls childhood games on the schoolyard in her elementary years to her high school graduation, her first job and her first boyfriend even.

Through her vivid recollections, we gain recognition of the heart behind a woman who loved so hard that her eyes were blinded to the cold reality of truth.   In a world cluttered with deceitful dealings, pain and continual loss, Wright closed her inner eyes and saw only a facade of what was real.

"There are really roads, highways to this life, with fast lanes and slow lanes and some with banked curves and circles around which we are driven. My story is a warning for women who think that the fast lane is the road less traveled, and therefore the best one to take. It is a cautionary tale for the inquisitive, middle of the road wanderers, who stumble at the fork, wondering what it might be like. But above all, it is a prayer for women all over the world who wish to know the truth of the matter," reveals Thelma Wright. "If you are in the 'game,' get out, because it will destroy you."

Thelma Wright's "With Eyes From Both Sides - Living My Life In and Out of the Game" is more than your cautionary urban fiction lore.  It is the real life drama of a woman who played the game in full and survived to tell about it. But even more so, Thelma Wright is 'everywoman' who has ever loved someone, but had to learn to love herself first and foremost.

See what her eyes reveal at http://www.ThelmabWright.com and purchase "With Eyes From Both Sides - Living My Life In and Out of the Game" there or wherever good books are sold.

A book launch and signing party for Wright will be held Saturday, July 30 from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at the Recess Lounge in Philadelphia. The Recess Lounge is located at 125 South Second Street.

NOTE TO MEDIA:  Thelma Wright is available for interviews at jazzmynepr@gmail.com.  For review copies of "With Eyes From Both Sides," send name, media outlet and mailing address and requests will be forwarded to the publisher for mail out .

A Generation Lost
On April 23, 1940, A Promising Night Of Dancing, Drinking, Music
& Fun Quickly Turned Into A Nightmare When Decorative Spanish Moss Sprayed With Fuel Based Insecticide Was Lit &A Devilish Inferno Broke Out & Claimed 209 Souls...
Although The Hellish Blaze Lasted 15 Minutes It Left A Traumatic Scar  And Lifetime Of Pain For
The Survivors & Their Close Knit Community, Which They Have Yet To Recover From
Generations Later...

The two deadliest nightclub fires in US history are bookended around the start of the second world war. The second deadliest, the Rhythm Night Club fire, happened on April 23, 1940, barely 18 months before Pearl Harbor. The nightclub was located in Natchez, Mississippi and the fire killed 209 African-American party goers, while severely injuring many others.

The fire started sometime around 11:30 p.m. as members of the local Moneywasters Social Club were enjoying the song “Clarinet Lullaby” performed by Walter Barnes and His Royal Creolians orchestra from Chicago. The fire started at the main entrance door of the building and quickly engulfed the structure in flames.

Foretelling future nightclub fire disasters, flammable materials contributed to the speed and intensity of the fire, in this case, decorative Spanish moss was draped over the rafters. When burning, the moss generated flammable methane gas which fueled the fire. With windows boarded up to prevent outsiders from viewing or listening to the music, more than 300 people struggled to escape the building. A few managed to escape but most died from smoke inhalation or were crushed in the stampede to escape. Bandleader Barnes and nine members of his band were among the victims. Only three band members survived, one vowing never to play again. The cause of the fire is unknown but thought to be accidental, possibly related to a carelessly discarded match or cigarette.

In Conclusion Some 23 Things To Ponder & Reconsider About The Frederick Jermaine Carter Case: Why???

By Bro. Ron a.k.a. R2C2H2 Tha Artivist
W.E. A.L.L. B.E. News Special Report...

Once again one must ponder and reconsider…

Frederick Jermaine Carter
(1/7/1984-12/3/2010)

1.)    Why hasn’t a substantive timeline narrative been established? In other words what time did Frederick and his stepfather leave the house and arrive at the painting job, what time did Luell leave Frederick by himself to buy supplies...What time did Luell come back to paint job and noticed Frederick gone etc.,...

2.)    Why wasn’t Luell Evans ever thoroughly interrogated about what he actually knows? Why hasn't he ever given an on-the-record explanation of his side of the story?

3.)     Why hasn’t  Attorney Valerie Hicks Powe filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Leflore County and the state of Mississippi if she feels that there was a murder conspiracy cover up by the powers that be ?

4.)    Why is Attorney Valerie Hicks Powe telling folks that she doesn’t have the autopsy results when she has had both autopsy results, the state and the second, mailed to her and in her possession for several months now?

5.)    Why is Attorney Valerie Hicks Powe allegedly “withholding evidence” (the 2nd autopsy results?) to start a proper investigation into the death of Frederick Jermaine Carter?

6.)    How do these "obstructions" benefit or not benefit the interests of Brenda Carter-Evans and her family?

7.)    Who first reported Frederick Jermaine Carter hanging from the tree on private property? Was this person or people ever identified or interviewed?

8.)    Were residents in the area ever thoroughly interviewed about seeing a Black man in the area wandering up and down the levee and in the neighborhood?

9.)    Were the owner(s) of the private property (Greenwood Riverbend Development) where the crime scene is located, the owner(s) of the dog pound as well as the mysterious man or men in the white truck ever interviewed?

10.)    How can Leflore County Coroner Debra Sanders state that Frederick Jermaine Carter was dead for 24 hours when folks reportedly did not see a dead person hanging from the tree on the Friday morning of Dec. 3 (His body was discovered that day at 12:30pm central)? Was he killed somewhere else and then placed at that location as stated by State Sen. David Jordan?

11.)    Why didn’t Dr.Shaker completely sign off on manner of death if there wasn’t room for a second opinion or reasonable doubt?

12.)    Why does Leflore County Sheriff Banks believe that Valerie Hicks-Powe & Frederick Jermaine Carter’s family are withholding evidence?

13.)    If the table was a key component used in Frederick Jermaine Carter’s death then why wasn’t it taken to the crime lab as evidence?

14.)    Why wasn’t a stress test performed to see if the table was strong enough to support Frederick Jermaine Carter?

15.)    Why did Sheriff Ricky Banks “tamper” with the evidence by reconstructing the table?

16.)    Why wasn’t the crime scene professionally preserved?

17.)    Why hasn’t the state of Mississippi release the toxicology and photos of the first autopsy?

18.)    Why wasn’t the Nation Of Islam given a copy of the second autopsy for which they fully paid for?

19.)    Did Frederick Jermaine Carter carry a wallet? If so then what happened to it and why wasn’t it listed as one of his items in his possession on his autopsy report?

20.)    If Frederick Jermaine Carter was found dead within 48 hours and only 2 miles from his original work site in a pre-dominantly white residential area not familiar to him and allegedly hostile to Blacks and strangers then why weren’t their more sightings and reports of his presence to law enforcement agencies by concerned citizens leading up to his demise?

21.)    “His clothing was intact. There was nothing out of place. His shirt was tucked into his pants with a belt on. His hands were not tied. There was nothing in disarray,” ~Leflore County Coroner Debra Sanders

Banks had said earlier that investigators thought the man was a painter because his clothes and hands were spattered and smudged with paint.~The Greenwood Commonwealth from article entitled “Sheriff: Hanging apparent suicide” 12/5/2010)

“If you stand (Carter) up on the table, he still can’t reach the tree”~Wendol Lee, Operation Help Civil Rights Group

If Frederick Jermaine Carter had long and unkempt fingernails and was 5’ 4” tall and 143 pounds according to the state autopsy report how could he had hanged himself from a tree limb that was at least 8 feet off the ground without getting any residue from the tree found underneath his fingernails since he would have to climb or be in close contact with the tree to tie the rope around the tree limb? Frederick was a painter by trade and he had (according to Sheriff Banks and the Greenwood Commonwealth) paint "smudged and splattered" all over his hands and clothes which means to me that although he may have been proficient in painting he still was a messy practitioner of his craft…So why would he now be a “perfectionist “ so stealthily able to take his own life without being a little messy in the process? Even if he stood on the table and pushed off as “the authorities said” he still wouldn’t be able to reach the tree limb standing on the table alone to secure the rope properly…Would this act of climbing the tree also leave his clothes “in disarray” with possibly some dirt and debris from said tree and would he incur some minor scratches on the skin from “climbing” or "engaging" the tree?  And why are there discrepancies between the documented appearance of Frederick Jermaine Carter by two law enforcement officials at the crime scene at the same time? How can he be neat in appearance and yet have paint smudged and splattered over hands and clothing?

22.)     “We found cut rope, but we didn’t see no knife. With that, there’s just a lot of stuff that’s not answered,”~Wendol Lee, Operation Help Civil Rights Group

Cut rope was found on Frederick Jermaine Carter but there was no knife or cutting device found in his possession…Where is the tool that he supposedly used to cut the rope to end his life? And why would he be carrying rope to a painting job in the first place?

23.)    Witnesses at the funeral home said that that were notable bruises and scratches on Frederick Jermaine Carter’s body while the law authorities disagree with that assessment.  Will the 2nd autopsy confirm their observations?
